A Day at VJTI: An Exciting Kickstart to Your Engineering Journey

The first day at Veermata Jijabai Technological Institute (VJTI) like many engineering colleges in India, is typically filled with orientation activities designed to help new students acclimate to campus life. However, with the new director Mr. Dhiren R. Patel, VJTI has offered an experience that goes beyond the typical orientation programs.

Orientation Session

The day began with an orientation session led by the deans and the director, providing a comprehensive overview of the academic policies, marking structures, and scholarships. As a first-year student in the BTech in External Communication (EXTC) program in 2017, this was an insightful session that set the stage for an academic journey. The director shed light on the institute's 130-year-old legacy, while a professor from IIT Bombay shared an interactive presentation on engineering education.

Campus Tour and Peer Interaction

The day continued with a campus tour led by seniors from the TY (third-year) batch. This tour was more than just familiarizing students with the college's facilities; it was also about meeting peers and establishing a supportive network. Sitting on the first bench, I started observing everyone around me and made a few new friends, which turned out to be a great start to my engineering journey.

Social Activities and Ice-Breaking Sessions

The highlight of the first day was the “SELF EXPRESSION” event where seniors from the TY batch showcased various co-curricular activities. This event covered every field imaginable, from dance and poetry to technical presentations. Each team shared their past achievements, which inspired us to unlock our true potential. It was a memorable day filled with goosebumps, as every presentation and talk ignited the passion within us for becoming the best engineers we could be.

Alumni Seminars and Professional Discussions

On the following day, we participated in a seminar featuring several alumni entrepreneurs, a psychologist, and a psychiatrist. Group discussions and campus tours were also organized by our seniors, who played the role of our mentors and guides. The seniors took us on a tour of the 16-acre campus, pointing out crucial locations and emphasizing the importance of knowledge and fun over any form of ragging.

The Backbone of Collegiate Life

Seniors at VJTI are the backbone of everything that happens to us. They serve as our brothers, friends, and mentors, ready to offer guidance and support anytime, whether it's about books, labs, or even personal advice. There is no ragging at VJTI, just a culture of knowledge sharing and camaraderie.

Conclusion

The orientation and the first two days at VJTI were more than just introductions to campus life; they were a journey of self-discovery and preparation for an exciting future in engineering. Tightly secure your seat belts, because the best four years of your life are waiting for you!

Edit: Snacks and refreshments were provided on both days, making the experience even more enjoyable. Free food is always a great perk, isn't it?
