CBSE Marksheet Validity for College Admission: DigiLocker vs Physical Copies
The validity of the CBSE marksheet obtained from DigiLocker during college admission processes is a common query among students. This article aims to clarify whether DigiLocker marksheets can be accepted for admission into colleges, or if students must present their original marksheet.
Will CBSE Marksheet Downloaded from DigiLocker Be Valid for College Admission?
According to the latest guidelines, a CBSE marksheet downloaded from DigiLocker will be accepted for college admission if it bears the signature of the head of the institution. If the marksheet does not have this signature, it is advisable to get it signed before submission. However, some institutions may still prefer the physical original marksheet for the admission process.
Despite the acceptance of DigiLocker marksheets with an institutional signature, it is important to note that they may not be accepted at all colleges. For the safest approach, it is recommended to carry the original physical copy of the marksheet.
Accessing Your CBSE Certificates Through DigiLocker
DigiLocker, a platform managed by the government, provides a convenient way for students to access their CBSE certificates. Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to access your certificates:
Once the DigiLocker account has been created for you using the mobile number shared by CBSE, students will receive an SMS containing a verification code. Use the registered mobile number to log in to your DigiLocker account. Enter the One-Time Password (OTP) received via SMS. Enter the last six digits of your Roll Number as the security PIN to successfully log in. Upon successful login, navigate to the Issued Document section where you will find all your CBSE certificates. For students whose accounts could not be created due to incorrect mobile numbers or any other reason, they can sign up on DigiLocker and link their Aadhaar numbers. This can be achieved by entering demographic details including Aadhaar Number, Name, Date of Birth (DOB), and Gender. Even if the Aadhaar is not linked to the correct mobile number, it can still be linked to the DigiLocker account.
Once logged in, students should click on 'Browse' and select 'Central Board of Secondary Education' in the Education category. Then, choose the document type you wish to fetch, such as Marksheet, Passing Certificate, or Migration Certificate. Enter the required details including year and roll number to download your certificates onto DigiLocker.
Current Acceptance of DigiLocker Certificates in India
It is important to note that despite the usefulness of DigiLocker for various government offices where you can present your Aadhaar number to verify your certificates, most universities and colleges still prefer physical copies of the CBSE marksheet for the admission process.
However, for official purposes and legal disputes, the digital certificate is valid under the IT Act 2000. If any institution denies the acceptance of a DigiLocker certificate, you can file a police complaint (FIR) against them. This is to protect the integrity and legal validity of the digital certificate.
