Can Religion Help Me Find Myself?

Religion, or the journey of self-discovery?

The belief that religion can help you find yourself is a widely debated topic. Instead of religion being the only factor, true meaning of human life is to be the best possible happy person. This is a journey that requires personal growth, self-reflection, and the pursuit of experiences that lead to satisfaction and fulfillment.

Self-Discovery Through Personal Choices

The only factor in this world that can help you find yourself is you. This is a profound truth – it is your decisions, actions, and the choices you make that define who you are. Do what makes you happy and live your life for yourself – let this be how you find part of yourself.

I have always identified as Christian, but only in the 9th grade did I truly start living like a Christian. Prior to my 9th grade year, I was quite shy and reserved. However, when I found my connection with Jesus, I experienced a profound transformation. I became much more confident and self-assured.

Personal Belief vs. Religious Dogma

While many Christians harbor biases against certain groups, such as the LGBTQ community, it is important to approach these beliefs with empathy and understanding. For instance, I am gay, and I do not believe that same-sex marriage is a sin. However, this does not mean that I hold a negative view of those who identify as LGBTQ . I believe that they should be taught about God with the same warmth and understanding as anyone else.

Religious communities often judge others based on their perceived sins. However, it is crucial to recognize that all people commit sins, and this should not be a basis for hate. Instead, it is essential to remember that we should judge people based on their actions and intentions, not merely their beliefs.

Religion and Personal Growth

From personal experience, I have found that religious people tend to have a deeper understanding of themselves than those who do not believe in any religion, known as atheists. Religion can provide a framework for personal growth, moral guidance, and a sense of community. However, it is not a one-size-fits-all solution. Some religious groups may not align with your values, and it is important to be discerning.

Atheists can also experience depression and anxiety, as they may not have a sense of purpose or direction in life. Religion can provide a sense of purpose and community, but it should not be the sole source of meaning. Instead, it should complement your personal goals and life choices.

Community and Support

When you are lost, one option is to seek help from local resources such as the police or community centers. However, a local police department may not directly help you in your personal journey of self-discovery. Rather, it is the communities and individuals within these groups that can offer support, guidance, and encouragement.

Religious communities can provide a sense of belonging and support. However, it is crucial to find a community that aligns with your values and beliefs. Avoid groups or individuals who claim to have predestined roles or who use religion to manipulate or control others.

Conclusion

Religion can play a significant role in one's journey of self-discovery, but it is not the only factor that can help you find yourself. The path to personal growth and happiness is a unique journey that involves personal choices, self-reflection, and the support of loved ones. Choose a community that values empathy, understanding, and mutual respect, and let this be a guiding light on your path to self-discovery.
