Do Christians Feel Threatened When Their Faith is Proven False?
Do Christians Feel Threatened When Their Faith is Proven False?
Faith is impervious to facts and evidence, and this is true even for secular faith like a political belief. Try convincing a MAGA supporter with facts and evidence! However, the scrutiny of historical evidence and theological claims often brings up doubts about the validity of certain beliefs.
A Critique of Christian History and Evidence
Let’s delve into some significant evidence regarding the historical and textual bases of Christianity. The 4th-century Roman state religion, known as Christianity, and the late 4th-century Codex Sinaiticus and Codex Vaticanus offer us clues. These documents are very different from each other and from the human-authored bibles in circulation today. There is absolutely no authentic and original first-century historical evidence of the existence of the historically invisible and entirely fictional character known as Jesus. No trace of any first-century messianic cult similar to the Roman state religion they called Christianity exists.
Given this, how much evidence of the supposed 'scam' do you need?
A Question of Salvation and Redemption
God, in the Old Testament, provides a clear message: “Look unto me and be ye saved all the ends of the earth: For I am God there is none else.” Yet, some Christians maintain their beliefs while others might question the origins and foundations of their faith.
“Thus saith the Lord thy redeemer and he that formed thee from the womb I am the Lord that maketh all things that stretcheth forth the heavens alone that spreadeth abroad the earth by myself.” - God. Isaiah 44:24
The overwhelming evidence is everywhere around us, as the Bible itself states: “He hath made the earth by his power he hath established the world by his wisdom and hath stretched out the heaven by his understanding.”
The Threat of Debunking Evidence
The question arises: Do Christians feel threatened by the mounting evidence debunking the very foundations of their faith?
“Because they regard not the works of the Lord nor the operation of his hands he shall destroy them and not build them up…” - Psalm 28:5
The logical response to this question is that Christianity, as a human construct, becomes a refuge for those who do not want to look directly at the divine. Instead of looking unto the Lord, some Christians focus on the questionable foundations of their faith.
The True Redeemer
God makes it clear that He did not pour Himself into humans or Christianity. The true redeeming work is through His Word, Jesus Christ, who took the sins of the world upon Himself. 2 Corinthians 5:21 states, “For he hath made him to be sin for us who knew no sin, that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.”
“I am the LORD and there is none else, there is no God beside me…” - Isaiah 45:5
The work of redemption is God's alone. Focusing on Christians or flawed interpretations of the Bible diverts attention from the divine. It is only by looking unto the Lord that salvation and redemption are achieved.
How are you engaging with the evidence? Do you look unto the Lord or do you seek refuge in the constructed beliefs of Christianity?
