While the BitTorrent protocol is already robust, there is still a need for better alternatives driven by strong motivation. Major players like Google might dream up new protocols, but it would take a significant push from a company like Google to replace BitTorrent.
On a related note, the proprietary Steam protocol offers good performance but lacks the openness of a protocol like BitTorrent or IPFS. While efficient, it doesn't offer the same level of transparency and control that open-source alternatives do.
In conclusion, while BitTorrent remains a popular and effective P2P protocol, alternatives like IPFS and ad-free clients such as Deluge and qBittorrent are worth considering for those seeking better performance, security, and control over their file sharing and downloading activities.
