Why Flat Earth Believes Refuse to Acknowledge Reality

Believing in a flat Earth can be a manifestation of several factors, including cognitive bias, the denial of uncomfortable truths, and a desire for alternative explanations. People who hold such beliefs might reject evidence that contradicts their worldview, often refusing to accept the overwhelming body of scientific proof that confirms the Earth's sphericity.

One example of such denial is the claim that scientists and authorities are part of a grand conspiracy to promote the idea of a round Earth. This belief not only dismisses decades of astronomical and geographical evidence but also paints a distorted picture of scientific integrity and truth.

If I were still vertical to the Earth's surface (pointing my feet toward the center of the Earth) and the Earth is spherical, the orientation of the stars and constellations would appear different depending on my latitude. From Sydney to London, a journey equating to approximately 9,300 to 10,000 km horizontally, the difference in the position of the Orion Constellation naturally confirms the Earth's curvature and shape.

When discussing these observations with Flat Earth proponents, the responses often range from evasiveness to outright dismissal. One individual I spoke to attempted to avoid addressing the issue, but when I pressed for an explanation, he resorted to insults, directing me to visit a website and other irrelevant sources. This reaction exemplifies the dogmatic denial often associated with Flat Earth beliefs and the resistance to empirical evidence.

It is also worth noting that the Flat Earth hypothesis is often propagated through alternative media platforms, where misinformation and conspiracy theories thrive. The prevalence and persistence of these beliefs highlight the importance of critical thinking and the rigorous evaluation of evidence.
