How to Make a UPI Payment Without Internet
How to Make a UPI Payment Without Internet
UPI, or Unified Payment Interface, is a payment system in India that allows users to transfer funds between bank accounts, wallets, and other payment channels through a mobile app. However, what if you need to make a UPI payment when you don't have internet connectivity? Is it possible to use UPI without the internet? The answer is yes – you can make UPI payments offline using a USSD code on your mobile device.
What is the USSD Code for UPI Payment?
As of now, NPCI (National Payments Corporation of India) allows users to make UPI payments offline by dialing a specific USSD code on their mobile phone. This USSD code is designed to facilitate UPI transactions even when the internet is unavailable, ensuring that users can still manage their finances.
Steps to Make a UPI Payment Without Internet
Here is a step-by-step guide to making a offline UPI payment using the USSD code:
Dial 99 on your mobile phone. After a brief wait, the USSD interface should appear.
Enter 1 to initiate a money transfer.
Select the appropriate option for sending money: 'Send Money.'
Input the recipient's UPI ID, phone number, or bank account number to proceed.
Enter the amount along with your UPI PIN to complete the transaction.
Once the process is completed, your payment will be successfully made. Note that a nominal charge of up to Rs. 0.50 per transaction will be applicable for using the USSD service. Additionally, the upper limit for a single transaction using this method is Rs. 5000.
Is UPI Truly Internet-Dependent?
Some might argue that UPI is internet-dependent because it is primarily used through mobile applications. However, it is worth noting that UPI can function offline using the USSD code. While UPI applications like BHIM, Google Pay, and PhonePe provide a user-friendly online interface, under certain circumstances, the USSD-based offline method can be a useful fallback option.
Steps for Making a UPI Payment Using USSD
Dial the USSD code (99) and enter 1 to make a payment.
Choose the 'Send Money' option.
Enter the recipient's UPI ID, phone number, or bank account number.
Input the amount and your UPI PIN to finalize the transaction.
While UPI applications are indeed internet-based, the USSD code provides a workaround for those times when internet connectivity is unavailable. If you wish to follow this process in Hindi, you can refer to the article Bina Internet Ke UPI Payment Kaise Karen.
What is 123 Pay?
123 Pay is another means of making UPI payments without the need for an internet connection. There are various methods to make payments with 123 Pay, including using a USSD code, making missed call payments, or through an app-based interface. 123 Pay offers flexibility and convenience for users who require alternative methods to transfer money.
