If I Could Go Back in Time: Reflecting on Life Decisions

In retrospect, there are several moments and decisions in my life that I would change if I had the chance. This includes educational choices and personal life decisions that significantly impacted my current situation. Here are some of the key experiences and the decisions I would alter if given the opportunity.

Professional and Educational Choices

Educational Path

After high school, I would have chosen a different educational path. Instead of entering the trades, I would have focused on conflict resolution and pursued a career as an arbitrator. This decision aligns better with my passion for understanding and resolving disputes, which could have led to a more fulfilling career.

Moreover, I would not have repeatedly moved around within Oklahoma. Each relocation has distanced me from friends and loved ones, the most significant being a man I was deeply in love with. Maintaining strong personal connections is crucial and can significantly impact one's emotional well-being and happiness.

Personal Health and Well-being

Overweight and JEE Preparation

There are several personal decisions that weigh heavily on me. As a student, I focused excessively on academic performance by neglecting my health, leading to an unhealthy weight. This lack of attention to my physical condition manifested in both my appearance and overall health.

While I was talented and had multiple skills, my appearance was often used as a basis for judgment. This served as a distraction from the importance of my personal well-being. Eventually, I realized that being overweight is not just a matter of appearance but an indicator of poor health. Obesity is the root cause of many diseases, and I regret not prioritizing my skin care, hair care, and fitness early on.

Post-Secondary Decisions

Kota for JEE Preparation

If I could go back and reevaluate my decisions, I would change my choice to prepare for the JEE (Joint Entrance Examination). I currently study at NIT Agartala and my experience has taught me that the JEE path was not entirely aligned with my goals and circumstances. I prepared for the JEE due to two main reasons:- My father desired that I become an engineer from an IIT/NIT.- I found computer programming in class 9th to be extremely interesting and aspired to study B Tech in CSE at IIT.

I dedicated three years to rigorous JEE preparation, but in the final year of high school, I was diagnosed with a herniated disc, which impeded my studies. Despite the challenges, I managed to secure a seat at NIT Agartala. However, looking back, if I had allocated that time to learning software engineering, data structures and algorithms (DSA), web development, and business writing, I would have been in a much better position now. NIT and IIT curriculums are outdated and teach irrelevant content, often leading to a lot of unnecessary stress with mandatory attendance and study pressure.

Reflection on Career Path

These reflections prompt me to consider how my career path could be altered. If I had focused on software engineering, DSA, web development, and other relevant skills, I would be in a vastly different and more advantageous position. The current educational system often emphasizes outdated syllabi, and students are forced to balance attending classes with learning practical skills on their own.

Conclusion

While it may be impossible to go back in time, reflecting on these pivotal moments in my life can provide valuable insights for those still making important decisions. It is essential to prioritize both personal well-being and career aspirations, ensuring a balanced approach that aligns with one's true values and interests.

Final Words

This reflection is not meant to demotivate but to inspire. Consider your current goals and whether your current path aligns with them. Make informed decisions that not only lead to academic success but also to a fulfilling and healthy life.
