Impacting Core Values: The People We Look Up To
It's a compelling question indeed: what core values do the people we look up to instill in us? The answer can vary widely depending on the individual, but for the average person, these values might include loyalty, discipline, honesty, passion, reliability, dependability, positivity, efficiency, optimism, and commitment.
Role Models That Reflect Positive Values
In general, I look up to people who see the good in others, focus on the positive, and exemplify kindness and truth. Their values and behaviors are often the glue that holds society together, offering a sense of direction and inspiration to those around them.
However, it's important to understand that the impact of these values is not always measured by external standards. Sometimes, a person's "reputation" may be influenced by external factors or cultural norms that don't necessarily reflect their true character or impact. In such cases, the true measure of a person's values lies in how they act and treat others on a daily basis.
Reflecting Core Values in Daily Actions
The key to having a positive impact lies in how well our core values are reflected in our daily actions. For example, a parent might teach their children not to curse, but if they themselves use profanity, it undermines their message. Consistency is crucial when it comes to instilling values in others.
One of the fundamental values to uphold is to be responsible for others and to treat all with respect. This means recognizing the inherent value in every individual, acknowledging their skills, and praising their efforts. It involves carrying our faith, our hearts, our thoughts, and our souls openly, and loving others regardless of their shape, color, gender, intelligence, age, or religious affiliation.
Mentoring and teaching by example are also essential. When we see someone teaching others through their actions, it reinforces valuable lessons and helps build a community based on mutual respect and understanding. By seeing all as equal, we foster an environment where everyone can thrive.
Always Doing the Right Thing
A core value that many of us strive for is to always do the right thing. This is especially important when we become role models for younger generations. When our children are young, we are their primary influence, instructing them on what is right and wrong. As they grow older, we can still have an impact by being aware when our grandkids may be deviating from the path of ethical behavior.
Unfortunately, many individuals who come from a lack of role models often lack important values such as ethics, morals, and commitment. Housing court, welfare offices, and local jails often reveal the consequences of growing up without proper guidance. These settings are filled with individuals who have no role models to turn to, and as a result, they struggle with making ethical and moral decisions.
It's vital, therefore, that we take responsibility for our actions and ensure that they reflect the core values we hope to instill in others. By being a positive influence and consistently demonstrating these values, we can create a stronger, more compassionate society.
