SLT is also involved in the SEA-ME-WE 5 submarine cable project, a 24 terabyte per second system using 100Gbps technology, designed to connect 17 countries from Singapore to Europe. This project aims to provide low latency and improve network diversity and resilience for the heavily loaded Asia-Europe route. By investing in the SEA-ME-WE 5 cable, SLT is supporting the national goal of making Sri Lanka a digital hub in the region.

The establishment of a SEA-ME-WE 5 cable station in Matara will enhance the reliability of Sri Lanka's connectivity to the system, making the country a preferred destination for Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) and data center operations.
