Data consumption per user increased from an average of 500 MB in 2016 to 19.5 GB in 2022. By 2020, 52% of mobile subscribers were accessing 3G or 4G internet, a significant jump from the 14% in 2016.
Democratization of Internet Access

Prior to Jio, internet penetration in rural areas was low, with only 9% of rural households connected in 2016. However, Jio's affordable services and extensive network coverage significantly improved internet access in rural regions. By 2018, 25% of rural households had access to the internet, and by 2023, more than half of India's 759 million internet users were from rural areas. Today, India has 399 million rural internet users, more than the 360 million urban users.
