Top Rumors from Maharaja Surajmal Institute

As of my last update in August 2023, I haven't gathered specific rumors or gossip about Maharaja Surajmal Institute (MSI). However, it's common to hear different perspectives and experiences from students and alumni regarding various aspects of their college life. Whether you're considering applying to MSI or already a student there, this article aims to debunk some of the popular rumors and share the truth behind the experiences of your fellow students.

College Life is Really Bad

One of the most common rumors you might hear is that college life at MSI is really bad. While personal experiences can vary, it's important to recognize that MSI fosters a diverse and inclusive environment. The college boasts one of the best campuses in the Institute of Public Enterprises (IPU). The canteen offers a variety of affordable and good-quality meals, and there are numerous eateries just outside the college campus. The spacious campus provides ample opportunities for students to socialize and hang out with friends.

Faculty is Useless

Another popular rumor revolves around the faculty at MSI. Some might say that the faculty is not very helpful or encouraging. However, it's worth noting that the faculty at MSI is diverse and highly supportive. You'll find some teachers who are incredibly knowledgeable and passionate about their subjects, while others might have varying levels of effectiveness. However, one common thread among all the faculty members is their willingness to guide and encourage students to participate in activities and organize events. Most of them are cooperative and willing to help students in any way possible.

75% Attendance is Compulsory

A frequent rumor circling MSI is that a 75% attendance policy is strictly enforced and that parents are constantly called about attendance issues. To set the record straight, the situation is not as rigid as it might seem. While some departments and faculty might be more strict about attendance, the overall atmosphere at MSI is more lenient. Currently in my third year, I can confirm that my parents have never been contacted about my attendance. While some teachers might require a higher attendance, others are more flexible and award full attendance credits for participating in college events. Additionally, the flexibility in attendance policies increases as you progress through your academic years, making it less demanding in upper years.

Placements are Bad

Another area where rumors often spread is regarding placements. Many students doubt the quality of placements at MSI. However, the truth is that the institute has a reputation for offering better job profiles compared to other IPU colleges and most DU colleges. MSI's website showcases a list of companies that have recruited students from the college. While some might complain about the job profiles, the overall opportunities provided are much better than what other institutions might offer.

Infrastructure is Not Good

There are also rumors that the infrastructure at MSI is not good. However, the reality is quite different. MSI has a five-storey building in excellent condition, with clean classrooms equipped with projectors and air conditioners. The building is connected to the MSIT building, which has a spacious common canteen. The facilities are well-maintained and cater to the needs of students.

Clubs/Societies Are Not There

Another rumor is that MSI lacks clubs and societies. In reality, there are numerous clubs and societies at MSI. These include dramatics, dance, music, eco-club, photography, finance, literary, Rotaract, and cultural clubs. These societies actively invite new members every year, and the administration now encourages the formation of more clubs. This vibrant club culture offers students numerous opportunities for personal growth and community engagement.

Sports Activities Are Discouraged

Some students might believe that MSI discourages sports activities. However, the truth is quite contrary. MSI organizes a sports day every year, and all students are encouraged to participate. They also host an inter-departmental football tournament annually. The campus features a large football field, badminton courts, table tennis, and volleyball courts. The sports facilities are well-maintained and cater to the needs of the students who participate in these activities.

Fests Are Useless

Finally, there is a rumor that college fests at MSI are unproductive. This is not accurate. Apart from the university-level fest, MSI organizes its own college-level fest. This fest is student-organized, and events are open to all societies. Certificates are given to participants, which can serve as valuable additions to their resumes. This fest not only provides an entertaining experience but also helps enhance the skills of the society members.

Understanding these common rumors and the reality behind them can help prospective students and current students make informed decisions. MSI is a dynamic and supportive environment that provides numerous opportunities for academic and personal growth.
