Music Genres: From Indie Rock to K-Pop and Beyond
Exploring My Musical Palette
Every day, I immerse myself in music for 8-10 hours, whether transporting goods in a lorry or working out in the gym. My musical tastes span a diverse array of genres, from the somewhat obscure to the universally popular.
My Daily Listening
I listen to several hours of music daily, primarily focusing on indie rock, especially British northern indie alt rock and new wave. This is my primary genre, and I enjoy it so much that it's a constant in my daily routine. On a weekly basis, I indulge in American rock and grunge, which are my go-to sounds for picking up my spirits.
Occasionally, I explore punk, heavy metal, hard rock, easy listening, soul, pop, RB, hip hop, classical, and country music, among other genres. I always keep an eye out for new music to discover and incorporate into my playlist.
A Rich Tapestry of Musical Influences
My musical tastes are extensive, and I enjoy a wide variety of genres. Some of the genres that catch my ear include alternative, new wave, indie, electronic, metal, screamo, hip hop, RB, jazz, classical, and J-Pop/K-Pop. Anything with a strong bassline or a killer guitar riff holds my attention for hours on end.
From the 80s and 90s, I particularly enjoy indie rock, alternative, and new wave. Occasionally, I revisit country music, which I initially dismissed as "lame" during my teenage years. My love for music is deeply rooted in its ability to connect with me on a personal level, making it a crucial part of my life.
An Adult in the Radio Industry
For years, I worked in radio and found myself enjoying almost every genre of music. My favorites include pop rock, K-Pop, bossa nova, smooth jazz, classical, and even the occasional country song. Right now, I'm particularly invested in Korean Pop and love artists like BTS, Jung Kook, Jimin, Jin, Suga, Taeyeon, CN Blue, and Lyn IU. The K-Pop sound captivates me, and I can't get enough of it.
Japanese Music Enthusiast
My love for Japanese music is profound, ranging from hip hop to pop to rock. Except for my fondness for Japanese metal, I tend to enjoy a wide array of Japanese music, whether it's on my own or recommended through the services I use.
A Musicologist in the Making
When asked about the number of genres in my music collection, I found myself pausing to count. The result: 34 distinct genres! I meticulously define each genre in the metadata and ensure I categorize them accurately. These genres range from the vastly popular to the obscure, each with its unique charm and appeal.
I understand that listing all 34 genres would be overwhelming, but let me share a few highlights: indie rock, alternative, new wave, grunge, electronic, metal, screamo, hip hop, RB, jazz, classical, and Japanese music. Each genre has a story to tell and resonates with me in its own special way.
