My Daily Routine: A Balancing Act of Health, Family, and Self

When discussing daily routines, many of us envision a typical day filled with work, family, and leisure. However, for a 40-year-old working mother and fitness enthusiast like myself, the daily grind includes a range of unique activities, from morning workouts to family time and self-care. Here is an in-depth look at my typical day.

4:00 AM: Early Morning Wake-Up Call

At 4:00 AM, I wake up, feeling refreshed and energized by the early-morning hours. I begin my day by refreshing myself with a neembupani - a mix of salt, turmeric, and a slice of sweet lime. This simple ritual clears my mind and sets the tone for the day ahead.

4:15 AM: Commuting to the Gym for Emotional Cleansing

I swiftly head to the gym, which is only 2 km from my home, cycling the distance while roads are empty and quiet. This 15-minute commute is a precious time for self-reflection. I reach the gym by 4:30 AM and start my workout routine at 4:30 AM, working out until 6:30 AM. This period is sacred, allowing me to clear my mind and engage in physical activity that energizes me for the day.

6:30 AM: Family Time Begins

By 6:30 AM, I return home to assist my two daughters, aged 8 and 15, in getting ready for school. I prepare their tiffins, help them with their braids, and assist wherever needed. It's a multi-tasking moment where my mornings are filled with the joy of nurturing and connecting with my children.

7:15 AM: Breakfast Ready for All

At 7:15 AM, in the kitchen, I whip up breakfast for my husband and myself, lunch for the family, and my own tiffin. My husband works from home, so I ensure everything is ready for him as well. By 7:45 AM, my daughters and I do Tratak Kriya (candle gazing) for 10-15 minutes, followed by 10-15 minutes of meditation. These practices are crucial for setting a calm and focused environment for the day.

8:15 AM: Office Time

From 8:15 AM to 6:00 PM, I am at my office, dedicating myself to my professional responsibilities. By 6:00 PM, I return home, eager to spend quality time with my family.

Post-Office Activities

My afternoons are spent in the living room, bedrooms, and kitchen, having breaks, talking to my children, preparing for dinner, and engaging in family activities. If I am having my menstrual cycle, I do some puja or read spiritual literature. By 8:30 PM, I serve dinner to the family, followed by a bit of personal reading before calling it a night.

Saturdays and Sundays: Family and Self

On weekends, I break the routine. Saturdays are spent at the gym after the children have left for school. The rest of the time is dedicated to cleaning, preparing lunch, and enjoying family time. Sundays, I wake up early to complete my Tratak Kriya and meditation, then go for cycling, followed by gym time. While the rest of the day is more laid-back, I still try to read novels or go for walks with my husband.

Sanitizing My Routine

Some might argue that my daily schedule is robotic and doesn't allow for personal time. However, I enjoy my time at the gym in the morning. I wake up early even on days off, simply because I love it. I find joy and energy in these activities, and they also provide me with the mental break I seek. My personal time includes having kitty parties with friends, reading novels, and watching movies.

I am dedicated to leading a balance-filled life, making each day count for my family, my health, and my own personal growth. This is the essence of my daily routine, a harmonious blend of responsibility, care, and self-indulgence.
