My Journey from Jehovah's Witness to Christian: A Testimony of Transformation
My journey from being a Jehovah's Witness to becoming a Christian is a story filled with profound transformation, spiritual awakening, and a deep connection with Jesus Christ.
Leaving the Cultic Grip of the Jehovah's Witnesses
My time as a Jehovah's Witness was marked by strict doctrines and a rigid belief system. We were not allowed to attend other churches or listen to other religious teachings, as the organization warned that such actions could lead to exposure to false doctrines. This strict adherence to the organization's beliefs was deeply ingrained in me, but after my grandmother's death, a visit to a Catholic service changed my life forever.
For the first time, I experienced the beauty of a church service with a pipe organ and a priest chanting. It was so inspiring that it filled me with renewed faith. Intrigued by the music and architecture of the service, I began to take an interest in church music, which eventually led me to take piano and organ lessons and become a piano technician. While this journey was challenging and filled with moments of liberation, I've never regretted my move away from the Jehovah's Witnesses.
Discovering the Truth Behind the Cult's Teachings
My decision to leave the Jehovah's Witnesses was further strengthened by my discovery of the Greek Interlinear Bible and the book “Crisis of Conscience” by Raymond Franz. The Greek Interlinear Bible exposed the false doctrines of the Watchtower Bible and Tract Society, while “Crisis of Conscience” provided a detailed expose' of the Jehovah's Witnesses' corruption of God's Word.
One significant event that led to my decision was the priest's prayer during dessert storm, which resonated with my beliefs. I was deeply moved by the idea of ending war and saving the lives of innocent people. This led me to question the organization's stance on violence and war, aligning more closely with the values of Jesus Christ.
A Spiritual Awakening and Conversion
During a trip with a friend who had never ventured away from home, we faced a profound spiritual experience that would change both of our lives. My friend had heard clear words in his sleep directing him to the Book of Philippians 2, advising him to “work out your faith.” Together, we discovered inconsistencies between our Bibles and realized that our interpretations had been flawed.
Our journey continued as we delved deeper into the Book of John, encountering a message that challenged us to meditate on the teachings of Jesus. During this time, my friend received spiritual rebukes in the form of dreams, prompting him to return home and seek a less dogmatic church. After a few months, he relocated and joined a church where he was further inspired to seek Jesus Christ.
During a Samaritans Purse work trip, my friend was led again by what he believed to be the Holy Spirit to be baptized. He was confused by the teaching on baptism but ultimately understood that true salvation comes through Jesus Christ and not through rituals.
My friend's transformation was profound. He experienced immense joy and clarity after being baptized, feeling more connected to God and less burdened by his previous beliefs. He understood that the true working out of one's salvation is not through rituals but through faith in Jesus Christ.
Even though my dear friend tragically passed away, the memories of his faith and the peace he transmitted before his departure remain a source of comfort and inspiration for me. Reflecting on his journey and my own, I am grateful for the deep spiritual transformation that has led me to embrace Christianity and find a renewed sense of purpose and faith.
