Navigating Quora's Content Policies: A Personal Perspective

As an active participant on Quora for over a decade, I've faced some of the platform's most stringent moderation policies firsthand. One aspect that often comes up is the frequency of reports filed. Let's explore my experience, which involves very few false reports, genuine threats, and a deep commitment to maintaining the integrity of the platform.

Frequency of Reports

Most of the reports I file are for genuine issues such as fraudulent profiles, unauthorized use of other people's identities, spam, and hacking attempts. None of my reports are false. If someone comments or suggests prohibited activities like hacking in a comment under one of my answers, I immediately file a report.

I also act as a defender for answers that do not violate questionable use or BNEG (Be Nice Everyone) policies, even when moderators are politically offended. By backing my stance with data and facts, my answers are typically reinstated after the language is edited to be more appropriate.

A Single Report in 13 Years

In the entire 13 years I've been on Quora, I have filed exactly one report. It was for a particularly serious issue: a direct threat of violence that included specific details about my location and my wife’s name. This singular instance stands out in what would otherwise be a history of diligently upholding the community guidelines.

Post this report, I continued to create 65,000 posts, all of which were untouched by the need for further moderative action.

No False Reports, Only Genuine Downvotes

While I don't file many reports, I do engage with content by downvoting inappropriate posts. Most of the time, I simply pass on such content, allowing the algorithms and community to handle it. I uphold the principle of honesty and fairness in my interactions on the platform.

Conclusion

My experience on Quora exemplifies a commitment to being a genuine participant and a defender of its values. Here are the key points to remember:

Most of my reports are for genuine issues such as fraud, spam, and harassment. I have filed only one report in 13 years, a serious threat of violence. I downvote several inappropriate posts but often pass on others, relying on community and algorithmic moderation.

By understanding and following these principles, we can all contribute to a healthier online community on Quora and other platforms.
