TCS CodeVita 2020 was held in a unique format due to the pandemic, with the entire competition conducted online. This article provides an in-depth look at the event for participants in both Zone 1 and Zone 2.
General Overview
The competition was divided into multiple rounds, beginning with initial qualifying rounds, followed by zonal rounds, and culminating in the grand finale. A large number of participants from various colleges across India contributed to this significant coding event.
Zone 1
Participants
Zone 1 typically included institutions from northern and western India. These participants showcased strong coding skills with many students achieving high scores in the preliminary rounds and progressing to the finals.
Performance
Participants from Zone 1 demonstrated excellent coding proficiency. The competition was intense, with several teams performing exceptionally well.
Challenges
The problems presented required not just coding skills but also algorithmic thinking and problem-solving abilities. The diversity of the questions ensured that participants developed these essential skills.
Zone 2
Participants
Zone 2 included institutions from southern and eastern India. Zone 2 participants also demonstrated excellent coding proficiency.
Performance
Similar to Zone 1, Zone 2 participants excelled in the competition. The intense nature of the competition meant that several teams performed exceptionally well.
Challenges
The problems were designed to test various skill levels, ensuring that both beginners and experienced coders found challenges that suited their abilities.
Final Insights

A Behind-the-Scenes Look at Round 1
Round 1 was a 6-hour long event filled with the challenge of passing all test cases. The participants found it both tiring and adventurous. There were six questions in total, covering a range of difficulties from easy to tough, including string and array problems, as well as dynamic programming questions.
I was part of Zone 1 and managed to complete two questions with 90% of the test cases passed and one question with 100% test cases passed. Even with just one full question completed, participants were eligible for an interview, which I received due to my performance in one full question.
