When Greetings Cross the Line

A common mistake in greetings is using overly informal or informal language in inappropriate contexts. For example, addressing an HR manager or a monarch with informal or colorful language, such as “Liz you old bugger how’re yer doing!”, can be highly inappropriate. While these phrases might be intended to show care and concern, they imply a lack of trust or respect, which is not ideal in a professional or personal context. The concept of calling out left and right directions incessantly also imposes a sensory constraint on the person, which can be tiresome.

It’s essential to greet individuals with respect and recognition of their abilities. A simple, considerate, and genuine greeting such as asking if someone needs assistance can demonstrate sensitivity and respect better than repetitive instructions on navigation.
