Today, smartphones have become an essential part of daily life for many. I, however, have a different approach to technology. I embrace the simplicity of my current VoIP phone, which has been my constant companion for over a decade. It costs me approximately $6 a month, including long-distance calls to the contiguous states. I don't own a smartphone nor do I desire to. Constant connectivity, which was once a desirable trait, is now something I don't need and, in all honesty, don't want. The loss of pay phones, which were convenient and affordable, is still a bittersweet memory for me.
