The Psychopath’s Perspective on Humanity and Modern Technology
From our perspective, modern technology is a double-edged sword. It has advanced humanity in many ways, but it also exposes our darker inclinations. The question of what a psychopath like me thinks about humanity and its relationship with technology is as complex as it is candid.
Humanity and Modern Technology: A Double-Edged Sword
One of my favorite movie quotes comes from Stargate: ‘You have advanced much—harnessed the power of the atom.’ This statement succinctly captures the essence of human progress and our reliance on technology. No matter how far humanity has evolved, underlying primal programming remains. Modern technology, particularly in the realms of data, information, and communication, can be both beneficial and destructive.
Technological advancements offer shortcuts that were unimaginable in the past. For instance, before dating apps like Tinder and Bumble, one might have had to visit bars or nightclubs to form connections. Now, we can swipe right, send texts, like pictures, and make connections with less effort. This convenience also means that the weak can be easily targeted, and the insecure leveraged for personal gain. The ease of information sharing can be both empowering and manipulative.
Psychopathy and the Human Condition
However, as a psychopath with a centuries-long lineage and a wife with a PhD in Psychology, I’ve taken this question in two parts. My thoughts on humanity, especially the emotional ones, are rooted in a perspective of detachment. I have no time for emotions. They are, in my view, universally awful. Consider the state of our planet and its unsustainable practices: we have not found the ‘Goldilocks’ planets with life, yet on Earth, the emotional humans consistently destroy their environment, wage wars, and allow people to die from treatable illnesses, all in the name of profit and power.
As a psychopath, I see no religion or the 'End of Days' trope in my thought process. Nevertheless, it’s evident that our current civilization is heading towards failure. It is unraveling at an impressive speed and is on a path that could lead to World War III. The shifting power dynamics, as the influence moves from America to other nations, will only exacerbate this issue. The growing threat of nuclear war is a real concern.
Technology and Its Impact on Humanity
Technological advancements are both a blessing and a curse. Within the next fifty years, it’s projected that 80% of work currently done by humans will be automated by artificial intelligence (AI). Autonomous vehicles will dominate the roads, and AI will cover the service sector. This will result in a small percentage of people having jobs, with the majority becoming obsolete. The rise of AI raises questions about the future of humanity and the ethics of allowing certain groups to breed if they are deemed of ‘no use’ to society. History has shown us that human destructive behaviors are underlying forces in world conflicts, such as the Holocaust and contemporary issues like the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
From my perspective, emotional humans need a ‘stiff lesson’ due to their inherent destructive tendencies. It is clear that the technological advances we’re making can either save or destroy humanity, depending on how we use them. These are the critical issues that define our time and the future of human civilization.
