The Unbeatable Hackathon Experience for Commerce Students
Have you ever wondered if there is a hackathon specifically designed for commerce students to hone their skills and gain practical insights? Yes, there is! I had the privilege of participating in such a hackathon hosted by PES University, and it stands out as the most productive 24 hours of my life. In this article, I will share my experience and the unique rounds that made this hackathon a exceptional event.
Roundwise Description: Breaking Down the Experience
The hackathon comprised several rounds designed to test and enhance various competencies. Here is a detailed breakdown of each round:
Round 1: Forming a Firm
In the first round, our team was given the task to form a commercial entity in a predefined sector. We were allocated a fixed amount of capital to invest in products, assets, and staff according to our needs. This round not only taught us about the intricacies of launching a business but also how to strategically allocate our resources.
Round 2: Business Presentation
The second round involved presenting our business idea to a panel of experts and fellow participants. We had to convey our entire concept within a limited time frame, highlighting the key aspects of our venture. This round was instrumental in reinforcing our public speaking and presentation skills.
Round 3: Firm Merger
In Round 3, we merged our production firm with a service provider. This collaboration was designed to maximize benefits for both entities, fostering a deeper understanding of strategic alliances and mutual growth.
Round 4: Core Product Development
Round 4 was focused on creating a core product for resale. We had to make use of remaining resources to develop a tangible product, and we were also taught the art of negotiation. From selling our product to purchasing from others, this round was an invaluable learning experience in supply chain and marketing.
Round 5: Auction Rounds
The fifth round was the most thrilling, as it involved an auction for different assets. We were given a crisis scenario and had to use our resources to resolve it. If additional assets were required, they were auctioned off to all teams. Over 20 assets were up for grabs, making this round a high-energy event filled with strategy and competition.
Round 6: Pitch and Crisis Strategy
The final round required a comprehensive pitch to the judges about our business idea, along with a strategy to handle any potential crises. Our team of six members analyzed the crisis statement, and two members from each team presented to the judges. This was an intense and rewarding experience, as we faced the pressure of presenting our ideas and solutions.
Conclusion and Advice
Participating in this hackathon was a rollercoaster of emotions. From the initial brainstorming sessions to the final pitch, every moment was filled with learning and growth. I feel genuinely proud to have been part of this event, and I believe these experiences will significantly benefit my future endeavors.
For all aspiring commerce students, I strongly recommend you participate in such hackathons. They offer a unique blend of theoretical knowledge and practical application, making them an invaluable addition to your education and career journey.
