What Are You Tired of Seeing in the Latest Hollywood Movies?

Hollywood films have increasingly become a source of entertainment and inspiration, yet many viewers are finding them repetitive and predictable. This article explores some of the common tropes and practices that have worn out their welcome in modern cinema.

Compulsory LGBTQ and Inter-Racial Romantic Relationships

The inclusion of LGBTQ or inter-racial romantic relationships in Hollywood films has become so common that it has lost its novelty. While there is no issue with including these elements, their overabundance in nearly every film is becoming tiresome and predictable. It’s not that these subjects are bad, but they should be used thoughtfully and not as a mere gimmick.

Deconstructions and Over-Complained Content

Deconstructions and the attempt to bring nuance to storytelling have, in many cases, turned into cliché. The so-called 'gray morality' is a tired trope that has run its course. When every film tries to deconstruct the same narrative, it diminishes the impact and originality of the story. It’s time to move on from such predictable storytelling techniques.

Boring and Shallow Action Scenes

Action scenes in modern Hollywood films often fall flat. For example, a lone character with a machine gun taking out numerous bad guys who inexplicably kill themselves by not seeking cover, or vehicles blowing up for no apparent reason, can be frustrating to watch. And the portrayal of bullets sending sparks when hitting a target adds no value to the scene and is better left out.

The Overuse of Super Heroes

While superhero films can be thrilling and entertaining in moderation, the overexposure of iconic figures like Spider-Man and Batman can be wearing on the audience. The repeated excursions into tribute films, where there are only a handful that are truly good or great, are symptomatic of a lazy approach to filmmaking. When tributes become more about blatant copying of original ideas, it feels unoriginal and lacks creativity.

Unnecessary and Ineffective Uses of Camera Techniques

The use of shaky camera techniques during intense scenes can often result in poor visibility. Similarly, the portrayal of defenseless or overly submissive minor characters and the constant reinvention of the same type of villains (those who just want power) can be both predictable and uninteresting. Furthermore, the constant emphasis on fancy cars and the limited portrayal of black characters as either thugs or snappy sidekicks perpetuates stereotypes and diminishes the potential for diverse and rich storytelling.

Overall, while Hollywood continues to produce a wide array of films, there is a noticeable trend of predictability and overuse of certain tropes. It's important for filmmakers to break from these conventions and bring fresh ideas to their storytelling, thus avoiding the repetition and predictability that can desensitize viewers and detract from the overall quality of the films.
