The nervous system, the complex network of specialized cells within animals, serves as the primary medium of communication and information processing. Neurons as Information Processors
While neurons themselves do not store information, the collective action of neural circuits can store and process information. This collective action, or the firing patterns of neurons, creates memory engrams and allows for learning and information processing in the brain.
The plasticity of neural networks, which allows for changes in response to stimuli, is crucial for adapting to new information and experiences. This plasticity is the foundation for learning and memory, making neurons the crucial players in the brain's ability to process and store information.
