Unveiling My Beach Nearby Finds: A Personal Metal Detecting Adventure

Have you ever wondered what kind of treasures lie hidden in your backyard or near the beach you like to visit? I was curious too, until one day I decided to use my metal detector to explore a mysterious area in my own backyard. What I found there was more than what I had imagined!

A Catalytic Converter and Other Finds

To start with, I’d like to share a picture of a piece from a catalytic converter. This particular piece is plated with platinum, a precious metal known for its rarity and high value. The item was discovered in my backyard, along with various other car parts and miscellaneous objects. Given the location, I assume it could be from a vehicle that broke down or crashed there back in the late 60’s or 70’s. While I’m not entirely sure what else could be made from platinum, the thickness of the plating seems a bit unusual, adding intrigue to the discovery.

Metal Detecting at Ocean Beach

Although I haven’t found anything particularly valuable or interesting using my metal detector, I did find some significant items using a more unconventional method—my wit and persistence! Let me take you through a couple of exciting experiences I had at the beach.

Lost and Found: My Smartphone at Ocean Beach

My first story begins on a sunny day at the Ocean Beach in San Francisco. I had my cellular phone with me, but when my cell phone battery died, I opted to leave early to continue the day. However, when I got home, my heart sank upon realizing my phone was missing. After some self-talk and 15 minutes of meticulous retracing of my steps, I managed to find the phone right where I had left it. I was overjoyed at the outcome of this needle in a haystack recovery mission!

Key to the Rescue: A Key to Remember

My second adventure with losing a valuable item happened later at the same beach. Around 3:00 a.m., with a lady friend, I ventured out to enjoy the cool night air and panoramic views. Unfortunately, my car key was misplaced, causing quite a bit of stress. Thankfully, I had previously found the phone, so I used the flashlight feature to search for the key. Thanks to the full moon's bright light and the calm wind, I was able to find the key in only 5-10 minutes. This was another thrilling experience searching for a treasure in the vastness of a beach.

Lessons and Lessons Learned

These experiences taught me that sometimes, the most valuable treasures are not the ones we can see but the ones we can feel and remember. While my metal detector found intriguing items like the catalytic converter, finding my lost belongings was a more rewarding journey.
