Why Did Allah Create Angels to Worship Him?

If you have a lot of money, you can buy cars, bikes, bangles, or even toys. No one will question why. Even if they do question your choice, you’ll justify it by saying that you like them or that it’s your preference. Similarly, Allah SWT (God in Islam, subhanahu wa ta'ala – may His glory be exalted) also created angels to serve specific tasks in accordance with His grand plan. Unlike humans, angels never disobey and always obey Allah’s will.

Divine Reasons for Creation

Some may wonder, 'Why did Allah create angels?' This question is not new; anyone who has pondered on such matters has likely asked themselves the same. The answer, much like many of Allah’s actions, lies in His infinite wisdom and power. Who can truly understand the wisdom behind every aspect of creation? The role of angels, much like any other creation, serves a purpose that is beyond human comprehension but infinitely beneficial.

Angels: Assistants of Allah

However, it’s helpful to consider a simpler reason: angels might be easier for our fragile psyches to comprehend. Perhaps the concept of worship, even if it’s not an accurate reflection of why angels are created, provides a framework for us to better grasp and relate to their existence.

In Islam, the faith is built on six fundamental tenets. One of these is belief in angels. Embracing this belief is an essential part of a complete faith. These pillars encompass faith in Allah, His celestial messengers, His holy scriptures, His angels, the Day of Judgment, and divine preordination.

Understanding Angels in Islam

Angels in Islam are beings of light and purity, often described as entities of unending praise and obedience. They exist beyond our realm of understanding, serving as Allah’s representatives and bearers of His messages to prophets and believers alike.

Angels: Beyond Human Comprehension

Angels are created from light, a concept that is difficult for us to fully grasp. We know that they exist, and we know their roles, but the exact form and nature of their creation remain a mystery.

They were created before the creation of the universe, a fact mentioned in the Quran. The grandeur of angels is often reflected in their roles and responsibilities, which span various aspects of the divine plan.

Key Roles of Angels

Angels play a crucial role in the world as we know it. They convey revelations from Allah to His prophets. They control various aspects of the natural world, such as rainfall and winds. Some angels are tasked with blowing the trumpet to herald the Day of Judgment, while others are responsible for escorting souls to the afterlife. They safeguard and protect individuals, record their deeds, and even assist in the development of a fetus in the womb.

A unique role of angels is to seek gatherings of dhikr (remembrance of Allah) and join in with their wings to assist in these devotional gatherings. They also govern the mountains and oversee the residents of Paradise and Hell. The names of some angels, such as Munkar and Nakeer, are known, and they play a significant role in the afterlife.

Angels are described as beings of great beauty and purity, unwavering in their devotion to Allah. They are executed in worship, unwavering in their obedience, seeking only to serve and praise Allah. Their roles are vast and varied, underscoring the profound understanding of these celestial beings within the Islamic faith.

Concluding Thoughts

May Allah grant us the understanding and love for His angels, allowing us to appreciate their roles and significance in our lives and faith. Understanding and embracing the uniqueness of angels can deepen our understanding of the divine and the intricate workings of creation.
