Why Some Games Deserve to Vanish: My Top Candidates

Introduction:

Have you ever been so fed up with a game that you wished it had never been created or remembered? If you've answered yes, you're not alone. In this article, we explore some games that, if deleted, could make our lives a lot easier or funner. After all, every game has its fans, but I’m here to share my personal selection. Without further ado, let's dive into the games that I think should never be remembered.

The Top Picks for Game Deletion

The Wretched Mafia Game

First on the list is a game that is as divisive as it gets: Grand Theft Auto (GTA).

Why I Hate GTA:

As someone with a distaste for criminal activities, especially those glamorized on video screens, GTA has always been a sore point. While people argue about its creativity, I find it disgusting. The sheer realism of the criminal lifestyle presented in GTA is so immersive that it can leave a lasting impression. No wonder it's one of the most popular games ever. However, I can’t stand the thought of promoting such brigandry through one of the most widely played games.

The Atari 2600 E.T. Game

Another game that deserves a similar fate is E.T., the video game on the Atari 2600.

The Crash and the Fallout:

The creation of the Atari E.T. game might not be directly responsible for the video game crash of the 80s, but it certainly didn’t help. The excessive production and subsequent overstocking of unsold copies led to the infamous and detrimental consequences. If E.T. had been better received or less overproduced, the video game industry might have experienced a completely different trajectory.

Madden NFL’s Exclusivity Contract

A less vilified game but still a source of frustration for me is the exclusivity contract between EA and the NFL.

Why It Needs to Go:

The Madden NFL series has long been the standard bearer of football video games, but it hasn't always been the case. The agreement with the NFL significantly hindered the development of alternative football games for a long time. Thanks to some recent changes, 2K Sports can now create football games, adding more variety to the market. However, the damage has already been done—over 15 years of lackluster football games thanks largely to this exclusivity.

Overwatch and Its Strict Gameplay

While it might seem like I’m only picking on video games, I must mention Overwatch. This game, despite its popularity, holds a special place in my heart for all the wrong reasons.

The Weakness of Overwatch:

Ever since I played Call of Duty: Modern Warfare (CoD MW) and Team Fortress 2 (TF2), I’ve been a fan of games that offer personalized and independent gameplay experiences. However, Overwatch takes a very different approach by overly simplifying the gameplay and mechanics. The strict character balancing and the heavy reliance on hard counters (e.g., Reinhardt vs. Mercy) can stifle creativity and individual playstyles. This is precisely what makes Overwatch so frustrating.

Conclusion

Every game has its place, but there are times when it’s best just to let it go. These games, in particular, have left me with a sour taste that might never fade. Whether it’s promoting criminal behavior, contributing to the downfall of a beloved company’s legacy, or simply offering a limited and restricted gameplay experience, these games deserve to be erased from our memories.
