Theoretical Possibility with Obsolete Equipment

A while back, it was common for cordless phones to operate on the 2.4GHz frequency, the same as Wi-Fi. Many believed that you could theoretically block a Wi-Fi channel with an in-use cordless phone by keeping it off the charging base and turning on the radio, as if you were on a phone call. However, today's modern routers use 5GHz in addition to 2.4GHz, and there are many more channels available in the 5GHz range.

Practical Limitations and Resolutions

Even if you were to block one 2.4GHz channel, the router's owner can simply switch to a different channel. This could turn into a never-ending battle of channel hopping, making it impractical. Moreover, some access points can automatically switch to a different channel in response to "noise" on the current channel.

The first and most practical solution is to move your Wi-Fi router to a different location. Placing the router closer to the center of your home or office can improve signal strength in areas that were previously weak.

Use a Wi-Fi Extender

Another effective solution is to use a Wi-Fi extender or range extender to boost your router's signal. These devices amplify and retransmit the Wi-Fi signal, extending its reach and improving coverage throughout your home or office.

Update Your Router's Firmware

Finally, make sure your router's firmware is up to date. Manufacturers often release updates that include improvements in performance and support for new features. Outdated firmware can hinder your router's optimal performance, leading to poor signal quality.

Building a Jacob's Ladder or Cripple Radio Communication

If you're more interested in creating a spectacle or experimenting with electronics, you can build a Jacob's Ladder, a device that creates an electrical arc that dramatically fluctuates in height. This can cripple radio communication within a certain distance, making most frequencies unusable. However, this is not a practical solution for WiFi jamming and is frowned upon by the FCC. Leaving a Jacob's Ladder on for an extended period can attract attention from regulatory bodies who will inform you that its use is unacceptable. In some cases, they might even confiscate the device.
